Inishowen Maritime Museum & Planetarium

Greencastle Maritime Museum Village
Set in the former Coast Guard Station beside Greencastle Harbour, the Inishowen Maritime Museum & Planetarium celebrates the peninsula’s deep connection with the sea. The museum holds an extensive collection of boats, models, photographs, maritime equipment and artefacts. Its displays cover fishing, emigration, lighthouses, shipwrecks and life at sea, including the story of the Spanish Armada vessel La Trinidad Valencera, which sank off the Donegal coast in 1588. The full-dome planetarium adds a completely different dimension to the visit, with scheduled shows bringing astronomy, the natural world and family-friendly stories to life overhead. With the museum and dome experience largely indoors, it is one of Inishowen’s strongest rainy-day attractions. Visitors should check the current show schedule and seasonal opening arrangements before travelling.
